Josh Last // Bass
Josh Last is the rhythmic anchor and melodic pulse of the low end. A native of Edwardsville, IL, Josh’s journey into the groove began in the percussion section of middle school, but it was the allure of the jazz band’s bass line that truly called to him. After a bit of parental persuasion and a formative obsession with the instrument’s on-screen swagger, Josh picked up the bass and never looked back.
Currently finishing his Bachelor’s degree in Jazz Performance, Josh’s playing is a masterclass in versatility. His sound is a sophisticated blend of influences ranging from the virtuosity of Jaco Pastorius and Ray Brown to the deep, soulful pockets of Erykah Badu’s Mama’s Gun and D’Angelo’s Voodoo. Whether he’s laying down a complex solo on his Sire F10 six-string or holding down the infectious final groove of "Taste of Your Love," Josh’s philosophy remains simple: making the best possible music alongside his friends.
When he isn't holding down the stage or the practice room, you can usually find him cruising around campus on a skateboard or listening to his "low-key" favorite, Sabrina Carpenter. For Josh, the music is about the blessing of the craft and the power of the pocket.
