Hello Nation,
Very excited to bring you some new music after so long! It has been an journey but through hard work, commitment, and perseverance I can bring you a track I am very proud of!
Mallori (I see you) is the 2020 winner of The John Lennon Song Competition Stuck at Home Series; one of the very first songs I ever wrote and performed live. Over the span of two years the song has evolved and changed in form and texture but always stayed true to the point of the lyric.
The song is an exploration of a stories of abuse, betrayal, and atrocious violent crimes faced by many women and their struggle to be seen in the wake of that trauma. I wrote in response to amazing METOO movement which has been a boon for many women whom have faced abuse at hands of men. This movement is societally important but equally important personally for me because of stories told to me by my mother and her own experiences with abuse.
The song was written for all the Mallori's who have been hurt by men who aren't strangers, nor random unknown deviants, but all too familiar faces. Men who are fathers, brothers, friends, bosses, mentors, physicians; and teachers. Men given positions of unguarded access and trust who use that to prey on unsuspecting women.
With fever I try to inject a spirt of engagement in the song harking for anyone who has experienced abuse to tell their story and be heard from a position of strength and power. Hear the full song on all streaming platforms 05/15/20 at 7pm on all streaming platforms!
VERSE 1:
You thought you knew him.
You thought that you knew well.
But let me tell you, baby you can never tell.
What under creepin (creepin)
What’s Underneath that warm facade
Could be a monster (monster)
Waiting in the shadow of your mind
PRE-CHORUS:
Lest not be the martyr of his game
(Be not broken by the shame)
Lest not be the arbiter of pain
(You're not a one to be tamed)
CHORUS:
Mallori
Tell me what he did
will you please talk to me
Tell me everything you need to
Kill the grief
Lean into me
I'll keep the your truth
For eternity
Just know one thing
Mallori
I see you.
I know you.
I feel you.
VERSE 2:
Bang bang you hear it
He breaking down your bedroom door
Like you remember, Ya seen him act this way before
But now he's stronger (stronger)
He's Gettin stronger every time
Can't last much longer (longer)
Your struggling just to survive

Lest not be the martyr of his game
(Be not broken by the shame)

Can't you see
What he's made you out to be
A piece of meat at his feet
Is that who you want to be?

Tell me everything you need to
Kill the grief
